Experience the breathtaking wonder of Antarctica on Aurora Expeditions’ 25th Anniversary Antarctic Polar Pioneer Expedition with flights, cruise and accommodation included. This ‘fly free’ package provides opportunities to see historic sites and scientific stations, as well as the local animal wildlife at breeding cycle peak, all while retracing legendary explorer Shackleton’s heroic boat voyage.
Departing 23 December 2017 with free flights from Sydney to Chile, passengers spend two nights in Santiago before flying to Ushuaia, Argentina, on Christmas Day for another two-night hotel stay in this scenic village.
The expedition cruise on Polar Pioneer departs Ushuaia on 27 December to cross Drake Passage, where passengers are likely to spot humpback and minke whales, dolphins, albatrosses, penguins and icebergs, in between onboard talks and environmental briefings.
The first landing is in the South Shetland Islands, followed by four days in the Antarctic Peninsula to visit penguin rookeries and historic sites and make a continental landing. The experienced leaders will design the daily activities depending on weather, ice conditions and wildlife opportunities.
Weather permitting, go ashore on Elephant Island, named for its elephant seal population, where Shackleton’s men wintered beneath their upturned boats. After two days at sea, get ready for four incredible days exploring South Georgia by foot, zodiac and kayak. The spectacular northern coast is home to the world’s largest king penguin rookeries, majestic albatross nests, 3000-metre peaks, beaches and the remains of whaling stations.
Cross the Scotia Sea before disembarking the ship in Port Stanley, where the adventure ends with either more time exploring the Falkland Islands or continuing on to Punta Arenas or Santiago. The final night is spent in a Santiago airport hotel to prepare for the flight back to Sydney.
Prices for this memorable adventure start at AU$28,469 per person for a twin public cabin on the 17–night South Georgia & Antarctica cruise, return economy airfares and domestic flights, four-star hotels in Santiago and Ushuaia, luggage transfer, all meals, lectures, zodiac excursions and guiding services, and entry to historic landing sites. Passengers also receive free gumboot hire during the voyage as well as a complimentary polar expedition jacket and a professionally produced voyage journal to keep and take home.
